Kawartha Total Foot Care Centre provides highly effective treatments for all foot problems in adults and children.
As registered chiropodists, our broad scope of practice benefits patients since the practitioners have the training and capability to draw on an immense range of therapies to diagnose and address problems most effectively.
Services at Kawartha Total Foot Care Centre are covered by most private health insurance plans, WSIB, SOADI, and Veterans Affairs Canada. They are not covered by OHIP.
We are
experts in biomechanics and gait analysis and treat all foot and foot-related
pain including plantar fasciitis (heel pain), heel spurs, sesamoiditis,
Achilles tendinitis, shin splints, and foot-related knee, hip & back pain.
Our office is equipped with the most modern technology and our foot specialists
are highly versed in the latest and most effective treatments.
One approach for treating foot pain, foot-related knee, hip & back problems, and structural foot abnormalities is custom orthotics. We use the most advanced and precise technology available in the creation of our orthotic devices: three-dimensional laser imaging.
While it seems everyone from non-foot specialists to shoe stores are providing “orthotic” devices as a sideline business, Chiropodists / Podiatrists are the only regulated foot specialists in Ontario. Their scope of practice is the only one that actually includes formal regulations around education, quality, and “best practice” standards of care in the provision of custom orthotics. It just makes sense to see a regulated foot specialist for your foot-related pain or problems.
We provide highly effective, specialized treatments to address all podiatric nail and skin conditions including fungal toenail infections, painful ingrown toenails, thick nails, corns, calluses, plantar warts, cracked heels, fungal skin infections like Athlete's foot, and dry skin.
A lifetime of relief from chronically painful, infected ingrown toenails is possible thanks to a procedure performed in our office in which a portion or all of the offending nail is removed. An agent is then applied to prevent re-growth of the nail in the problem area. The procedure is painless since the toe is “put to sleep” using local anaesthetic. Patients typically return to work the next day and can participate fully in their normal activities within a very short time period.
People with
diabetes are 20 times more likely than the general population to suffer from serious
foot problems. While our focus is on prevention through education and ongoing
care, if problems occur we are highly skilled and uniquely qualified as
chiropodists to treat serious complications from diabetes including skin
ulcers.
We provide an array of cosmetic services including a prosthetic nail replacement procedure to greatly improve the appearance of fungal, discoloured, and damaged toenails. We also treat foot odour, cracked heels, dry skin, and calluses. We can help to restore a more attractive appearance to your feet in a safe, medically sanitary environment. And, thanks to our unique qualifications as regulated foot specialists, we will also attend to any underlying medical issues that may be causing the cosmetic issues.
We carry a wide selection of foot health products including diabetic socks, pads and cushions, antifungal toenail polish, arch supports, compression stockings, antifungal medications, specially formulated moisturizers, and night splints.
From diabetic foot health prevention, falls prevention to proper footwear advice, we place great importance on providing our patients with the information and tools they need to actively maintain good foot health. Besides the one-on-one education we provide at a patient visit, we also maintain a library of patient foot health tips that is constantly being updated with the latest information. This allows us to dispense personalized, tailored "take home" information to patients on just about any condition.
Our clinic is equipped with therapeutic technology including infrared light/laser, ultrasound, and our new proprietary Diabetic Diagnostic Interface - a technology that helps us to obtain a clearer picture of your foot health.
We are also one of the few clinics currently offering Foot Mobilization Therapy (FMT). This is a specialized area in which "mobilizations" are performed on foot tissues to break down adhesions and restore a more normal foot structure. FMT is performed by a chiropodist / podiatrist and is different from other types of mobilizations and manipulations. Often FMT alone can alleviate foot pain. It is also very useful in preparing an inflamed or injured foot
